1.50 York Korker ew – Mondammej ew

Sometimes slowly away Korker comes with risks, but takes a drop in class into a handicap.
The drying ground is also a big possitive having won over the course and distance at this meeting last year.
He’s now 4lb lower in the handicap and has won 2nd time out the last 2 years in a row.
One at a bigger price is Mondammej. You either love him or hate him but when he gets a fast pace too aim at he can be very good. He’s also well handicapped. He gets a 8lb weight swing with Korker, dropped from a handicap mark of 104 too 97 since they last met at York last July. Ground should be fine and too well handicapped too ignore.

3.00 York Cruyff Turn ew – Eiliean Dubh ew

Cruyff turn won this race last year off a rating of 97 and is 1 lb lower today. Disappointing in the Thirsk hunt cup last time out but the ground was definitely too soft for him. Well drawn in stall 3 and with the ground in his favour ( 3 wins on good ground from 8 runs) Tim Easterby’s runner should go well. Another horse the ground is right for is Karl Burke’s Eilean Dubh.
Only 2lb higher than his win at the track last July. He also ran in the hunt cup at Thirsk on ground he wouldn’t off wanted but still ran a ok race coming 6th. He’s also 2 from 2 at York and Karl Burke’s horses run well at this meeting.

3.35 York The Foxes – White Birch ew

The Dante looks like the best trial we will see before the derby, with a full field of good horses .
The main one I like is the Foxes for Andrew balding.  He surely would of won the craven stakes at Newmarket if handled the track better ( hung right when leading before getting run down by indestructible) and the form of his royal lodge stakes has worked out well Dubai mile running well in the 2000 guineas (5th) and Greenland winning the Prix Greffulhe in France recently. He’s bred for the trip ( closely related too Bangkok who was a grade 2 winner over 1m2f ) and should go well under Oisin Murphy.  Another one who’s price is to big is White Birch who was an Impressive winner of the Ballysax at Leopardstown, a race that has produced derby winners in the past. The second up and under has ran well since behind Sprewell in the derby trial stakes at Leopardstown with Proud and regal in third. Stays the trip well and shouldn’t be 11/1 so small ew on him.
