Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in pole position to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez this summer, despite interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

According to Argentine outlet TyC Sports, the Aston Villa goalkeeper is likely to leave the club ahead of next season, with the trio of English clubs vying for his signature.

Martinez has impressed on both domestic and international stages, helping Argentina claim victory in the 2021 World Cup.

While Aston Villa are in contention for a place in Europe next season, the opportunity to join one of the Premier League‘s elite clubs may prove too enticing for the 30-year-old.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be looking for alternative options to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks.

Martinez joined Aston Villa in 2020 and has made 109 appearances for the club, as well as earning 28 caps for his country since his international debut.

With four years left on his deal, he is expected to command a high transfer fee. This season, he has kept 11 clean sheets in 33 top-flight appearances.
