This week we have two ATP 250 tournaments, one will be played in Stuttgart, Germany (Boss Open) and the other will be held at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands (Libema Open).

Boss Open, Stutgart

The BOSS Open, an ATP event, has a long history dating back to 1898, but it officially joined the tour in 1990. Over the years, notable champions like Goran Ivanišević, Guillermo Coria, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have graced the tournament. Originally played on clay, the event transitioned to grass courts in 2015, making it an ideal warm-up for Wimbledon.

Matteo Berrettini, a skilled grass court player, is the reigning champion after winning in 2019 and 2022, defeating Andy Murray in a thrilling final. However, his recent form has been inconsistent, and injury concerns might impact his performance. Historically, defending the title at Stuttgart has been a challenge, with the last successful defense occurring in 1996.

Looking ahead to this year’s BOSS Open, Alexander Zverev stands out as a strong contender. Despite not finding much success in Stuttgart previously, Zverev’s semifinal run at Roland Garros and his status as the face of the tournament in his home country suggest he will bring his A-game. Moreover, he has demonstrated his ability to excel on grass in past editions of the Halle tournament.

For those seeking American favorites, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, and Tommy Paul are worth considering. Among them, Fritz holds the highest ranking and has shown great form this season, including reaching the third round at Roland Garros. But the most awaited player will be Nick Kyrgios who has not played a match this year due to injury. Last year’s Wimbledon finalist has the game for grass and can be a contender at Wimbledon but lots of attention will be focused on his form and fitness.

Libema Open s-Hertogenbosch

The Libema Open in ‘S-Hertogenbosch, also known as the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, is a highly anticipated event in the Netherlands. As one of the few tournaments that combines both ATP and WTA competitions, it attracts tennis enthusiasts from all over the world. Taking place from June 12th to June 18th, this 250-level tournament promises an exciting week of intense matches.

All eyes will be on Daniil Medvedev as he aims to enhance his grass court skills, mirroring his recent success on clay. With his best performance reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, Medvedev is determined to showcase his versatility on different surfaces. Joining him in the Men’s field is Jannik Sinner, who seeks to rebound from his early exit at the hands of Daniel Altmaier in Paris. Borna Coric will also be one to watch as he strives to find his rhythm early on.

In addition to these contenders, fans eagerly await the return of Milos Raonic to the ATP Tour. After his last appearance at the 2021 Atlanta Open, where he fell to Brandon Nakashima, Raonic faced setbacks due to an Achilles problem and subsequent injuries. However, he is finally ready to make his comeback, starting with his match against Miomir Kecmanovic on Monday.
